In April 2025, hackers stole $92 million from decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms, marking a 124% increase from March’s $41 million loss, according to Immunefi, a blockchain security firm. The largest incident involved UPCX, which lost over $70 million, while KiloEx lost $7.5 million but later had its funds returned. Notably, all attacks targeted DeFi protocols, with no centralized exchanges affected. Immunefi CEO Mitchell Amador warned of rising threats from state-backed actors and emphasized the need for stronger security measures and a “zero-trust” approach. April’s thefts pushed 2025’s total losses to over $1.7 billion, exceeding 2024’s total.
