Amazon is rolling out Alexa+, a generative AI-powered assistant, in a limited preview to over 100,000 U.S. users with compatible Echo Show devices. Free for Prime members, it will cost non-members $19.99 monthly. Announced in September 2023, the upgrade aims to enhance conversational and contextual interactions. Key features include cross-device conversation continuity and improved privacy settings. However, several functionalities, like gift brainstorming, have been delayed. Amazon invested $4 billion in AI developer Anthropic to enhance this assistant. Additional features, such as document summarization, are included, but users currently cannot delete uploaded documents.
