A Redditor shared Ring camera footage of a teen neighbor holding a device with an antenna, sparking speculation.
One theory suggested a signal relay/amplifier for car theft, enabling “relay attacks.” These attacks involve two thieves using devices to amplify key fob signals, unlocking and starting cars remotely.
However, another commenter identified the device as a camera/bug finder (RF detector), used to locate hidden surveillance equipment. The teen may have been calibrating it or searching for hidden cameras in her home.
Though likely not related to car theft this time, users reinforced keeping key fobs far from doors or in Faraday bags/boxes to prevent key cloning.
