In 2013, an 82-year-old woman in Colombia underwent an X-ray for abdominal discomfort, revealing a rare lithopedion or “stone baby.” This was a calcified fetus she had carried for approximately 40 years. The condition occurs when a fetus dies during an abdominal pregnancy and becomes calcified by the body’s immune system, preventing infection. The patient underwent surgery to remove the mass. Such cases are extremely rare today due to advances in prenatal care.<|begin▁of▁sentence|>
